THE URBAN CONSERVATION · LOCAL LEADERSHIP. SHARED DIRECTION.

Your community.
Your lived experience.
A shared way forward.

Bring The Urban Conservation’s mission closer to home. A UC charter connects local leadership with programs, frameworks and relationships that help people build safer, more stable futures.

‘Wright’ the next chapter.
A stepping stone for others.

After 21 years of incarceration, Shawn, from Dallas, started UC’s first charter, The Wright Cause Urban Youth Conservation. It was a stepping stone in his own life: a way to turn lived experience into purpose, leadership and service to his community.

The charter process helped give that next chapter direction. Instead of carrying an idea alone, Shawn could build around a shared mission, a defined sequence of steps and a framework for putting community needs into action.

His story reflects what a charter can make possible: not erasing the past, but using what someone has lived through to help shape a different future—for themselves and for the people around them.

Six steps.
One connected pathway.

You bring local knowledge and commitment. Together with UC, you work through the fit, foundation and relationships needed to establish a charter responsibly. Timing and requirements are confirmed during review.

  1. 01

    Apply

Tell UC who you are, the community you want to serve, the needs you see and why you are ready to lead. Share your lived experience, local relationships and initial vision.

  2. 02

    Review

Work through that vision with UC. Discuss mission alignment, leadership readiness, community needs, available resources and the programs that make sense locally.

  3. 03

    Approval

UC determines whether the proposed charter is a fit. Confirm the scope, expectations and conditions together before moving forward. Applying does not guarantee approval.

  4. 04

    Establishment

Build the foundation: local roles, a practical operating plan, program preparation, participant safeguards and documentation. Confirm with UC any agreements and legal or operational requirements before launch.

  5. 05

    Introductions

Identify and connect with the people who can help the charter serve responsibly—community leaders, referral partners, service providers and potential supporters. Establish clear roles and follow-up.

  6. 06

    GoToMarket

Put the approved plan into action. Align the local message with UC, introduce the charter to the community, build referral relationships and launch the agreed programming with a plan for tracking progress.

The programs open the door.
The framework guides the path.

A charter is more than a name in a new city. UC’s approach connects relationship, accountability and practical support so local leaders have a direction for the work—and participants have a path forward.

A framework for decisions

Identify the problem. Create a solution. Design a pathway to success. UC’s intervention framework helps a charter name the local challenge, choose practical actions and stay focused on the next meaningful step.

Programs with a purpose

The SAFE. ALIVE. FREE. INSTITUTE™ connects learning, mentorship, life skills and leadership. Youth, men’s and women’s experiences give a charter a starting point for discussing community needs with UC—not a one-size-fits-all program to copy.

Relationships that create a path

Mentoring, trusted referrals and community partnerships connect people to education, workforce opportunities, wellness and stability. Local leaders help participants move from a goal to a practical next step.

Accountability that keeps direction

Clear roles, participant goals, consistent follow-through and outcome documentation help turn intention into disciplined work. Review what is working with UC, address gaps and keep the community—not just the launch—at the center.

Explore impact and accountability

Program availability, training, use of the UC name and the charter’s operating scope are confirmed with UC during review and establishment. A charter is not automatic authorization to deliver every UC program or a guarantee of funding, contracts or referrals.
